Leaving Australia

Off we go on our first adventure with our baby girl, Isabella. With some trepidation, but a lot planning and packing.
Generally, we like to travel light, a few tops, a couple of pairs of pants and other basic essentials, if things wear out we buy new ones. With Isabella its a different kettle of fish. As we didn’t know what to expect we got the feeling that we were over packing. Our main concern was the train journey of 5 nights as we didn’t want to run out of anything. We have a big margin for error ☺. We crossed packed our clothes (first time doing this) just in case one of the bags went missing and then spent the last morning (like you do!) running around madly cramming last minute items into bags and making sure we have everything.
Our driver was very patient in waiting for us as we set off half hour late, thankyou Mr Holt. So off to the airport we went, with our 2 Macpac backpacks, 1 large general bag for Isabella, 2 carryon bags, mainly camera stuff and our essential stroller. With 3 adults, 1 babyseat with Isabella in it and our luggage we only just fitted in the little Ford laser.
Get to the airport, unload, wave Chris goodbye and thanked him for the lift and reminded him not to forget to pick us up on the 1st November (8 whole weeks away). We get to the check in counter put all the bags one by one on the scales. 21.3kg, 20.9kg, 14.3kg and finally, 7.5kg for the stroller. A whooping great 64kg plus carry on luggage (lucky for us they don’t weigh carry on luggage!). In comparison to our 6 month round the world trip a couple of years back we left Perth with only 28kg!! As you can see babies don’t travel light.
Before we even boarded the plane we remembered the first thing we had forgotten, Isabella’s teething ring left behind in the babyseat as she was having a good chew on the way to the airport (you just can’t trust babies to bring anything!). Damn but as it turned out it wasn’t the only thing we had forgotten! Well that’s another story and probably best not put on the internet.
