Hong Kong

Just a quick stopover on our way to Beijing, it was either that or the red-eye from Perth to Sydney and then fly direct to Beijing. Given our situation we decided the best plan of action would be the stopover. This being our second visit to Hong Kong, the first time was also a single night (I see a pattern developing here) as we had a stopover on the way to London in 1997, when it was still British (Chinese on the way back). During the flight we had Isabella next to the window so she could see the world from up high, and when arriving in Hong Kong she absolutely loved it as the city appeared before her. She was bouncing up and down and banging on the window. It was so cute!
Well with China booming its certainly changed. They have built a brand new airport, and a very nice one to boot. A bit further out so our taxi fare was a little bit more but very enjoyable nevertheless…. though we did have a nice gentleman at the arrival gate (like you do) offering to take us for a ride!!! unlike Perth there were a few hundred taxi’s queued up! or if you don’t have much luggage you can catch the high speed train.
Before we left I read on “ news.com.au” about some of the worlds great taxi rides and it stated the ride from the new airport into Hong Kong was definitely one of them. When you now travel by taxi from the airport you cross a huge new bridge they have built to access downtown Kowlon with great views Hong Kong island itself, a stunning view at night.
In our brief stay, Lisa didn’t even leave the hotel and I actually only went outside to take a few pictures and buy some water. The hotel was nice so we thought we would just take it easy and relax. At our buffet breakfast we had Isabella in the high chair and she was having a ball the staff were very attentive and she thought it ws a great game to bang her cup against the table and drop it over the edge and have everyone pick it up for her… at the next table a few business people were trying to have a meeting…don’t know how much work got done! as they kept making faces at Isabella to her delight. One our transfer back to the airport we meet a couple of older ladies who were also off on the Trans-Mongolian, but leaving a few days before us, they had organised their trip through an Australian company.
At the airport we had a lady approach us while we were feeding Isabella. We didn’t recognise her till we clicked she was the flight attendant that had lots of fun with Isabella on the way up from Perth. She came over to us to say hi and to see Isabella, she was off duty, at the airport trying to fly home (they go on standby) to Japan and was delighted to see Isabella again.
As for our departure we had to make a run for it as. Lisa wanted to buy a book and took forever to choose and to top it off she thought we were departing from gate 39, not 69…. (Phew! It was a very long way…) We made it just in time, lucky for us Isabella was fast asleep in her stroller and had no idea that her parents were running frantically through the airport to catch their flight.
